Cassandra’s Dream (2007)

This was a pretty slow moving film starring two great actors and a good director. Interesting ending, but took too long to get to it.

The Mechanic (2011)

Ok, I have a weakness for Jason Statham, so I MUST see all of his films. Great house, interesting plot, nice ending and a set up for a sequel. Hope to see one.

Youth in Revolt (2009)

This should have been so much better. Who let Cera make that film, they should be fired.

Coraline (2009)

September 12th, 2010 · No Comments

Beautiful film based on a Neil Gaiman book. Saw it in regular 2D as we watched at home and really don’t enjoy the 3D experience.

The story was good, but the visuals and animation were amazing. Film goes by quickly with plenty to see.

imdb.com

A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family.

Revolutionary Road (2008)

September 12th, 2010 · No Comments

Depressing film about a husband and wife, different needs, different goals, unwanted ends.

Lots of scene chewing.

I personally liked the insane guy – John. There is a part of me that thinks every couple needs one of these.

The Nugget (2002)

Charming Australian film about 3 friends, possible riches, and how friendship means more than money.

and you get to hear Eric Bana using his real voice instead of the American accent he uses most of the time.

Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995)

September 12th, 2010 · No Comments

Finally!!!

I could not seem to catch this film on cable for YEARS. We finally found it a bit edited and cut, but I finally got to see it.

I am a fan of the Die Hard series. I considered at one point going to just rent them all on DVD to see them back to back, but figured it would show up.

Great action, pretty faithful use of NYC. I hate those films where you can make it from Washington Square Park to Grand Central Station on rollerblades in 5 minutes (yes, I am talking to you Hackers).

Again, it does the thing I appreciate most in the Die Hard films… the “hero” actually looks like crap by the time the film is done. He can’t outrun bullets or not bruise when he gets punched in the face.

Nice heist, “fun” wild goose chase tasks.

Machete (2010) [Theatre]

September 6th, 2010 · No Comments

This was Danny Trejo’s film, everyone else was just a supporting character.

Amazingly some great performances were given by some really  not great actors. Steven Segal was perfect in his part with an over the top death scene that you just have to love as an actor. Don Johnson got to play an unbelievable dick (and was very convincing). Even Jessica Alba was fun.

But Trejo stood out. Few lines, so much to say.

Note to Cheech Marin: If Robert Rodriguez calls you to be in a film you KNOW you are going to die in it. Thank him for making it more over the top each and every time.

Fun fun fun, bloody, and bloody good fun.
