Cold Comfort Farm (1995)

April 13th, 2009 · No Comments

This film has all the feeling of being a Jane Austen Novel gone wrong and yet is fun.

A young woman goes to relatives in the country after the death of her parents. The relatives take her in because of an old family issue that has left their farm ‘cursed’. Flora proceeds to change the lives of everyone at the farm and find love that allows her to live in the manner to which she hoped to be accustomed.

The family she moves in with at Cold Comfort Farm are all dominated by the family matriarch who saw something in the tool shed when she was quite young and has used it to rule the family ever since. This leads the family to activity that borders on insane (or sometimes is).

A fun, very British film that has some laughs, some tender moments and that all adorable meddlesome woman that changes her world.

And Joanne Lumley plays a 1930′s version of Patsy.
