Francis Ford Coppola wrote and directed this long, beautiful film that made me feel like I was in film school again and I fear having to write 1000 words about this film. Why? Because I really didn’t get it. I got the message, but was it a dream? Did any of it happen? If it did, did it happen like the story showed or did it happen differently to a man who was just struck by lightening? Was it all just a display of frustration over not finishing what you consider your life’s work and therefore a projection of a wish of what you could accomplish?
I guess I would fail this paper, but then I didn’t really have the energy to concentrate on a film school film after working all day. I sort of just wanted pretty pictures (which I got) and a nice story. I probably would have enjoyed the film a lot more if I had been interested in thinking as much as this film wanted me to.
A love story wrapped in a mystery. Set in Europe before WWII, a timid professor is changed by a cataclysmic event and explores the mysteries of life.
