Congratulations Scott Caan on writing and directing a film where there were no strippers anywhere except the credits. And it was a nice credit sequence. Also, letting your self play a completely dysfunctional ass was nice instead of writing an unrealistic part about what a stud you are.
So, on to the story. Two friends get into trouble, one’s mom bails them out. One wants to make changes, one just gets into more trouble. Things end badly for one, things change for the other.
The characters were quite well written and interesting. The story was two fold – a friendship between two men trying to become adults and a friendship between a man and his mother as they both cope with changes in their own and each other’s life. With a little Goldblum tossed in for fun and perspective.
Dark, great characters, possibly the most interesting Scott Caan directed film out there.
Rusty (Hatosy) starts to pursue a path to a more meaningful life, thanks to his connection to Bob (Goldblum), the boyfriend of his mother, Mary (Lynch). His new take on life causes friction with his best friend, Dallas (Cann), and both men find their friendship pushed to its breaking point, causing them to make life-changing decisions.
