How can you not root for a Michael Cera character? You want him to get the girl, the RIGHT girl. Things have to work out for his characters or there just really is no justice in the world.
And in this film he does. They love the same things, they connect despite ex’s getting in the way. He doesn’t care about her because of who her dad is. She cares about him because of what he likes before she even meets him.
This film makes you think that all can be right in a geeky teenage world, your friends will be true, you will find love, and you can make $8.50 for driving someone to the Bowery Ballroom.
