How did we miss this Eric Stoltz film? I thought I had kept up on them, but apparently not. And the fact that Mary-Louise Parker is in it, makes it even more odd that we didn’t see this the first time around.
So we pop this 15 year old film into the queue. It has actually held up much better than one would expect. Appropriately angsty with confused sexual situations/relationships and the never ending unsureness about your chosen career path.
And our friend Snoopy’s dad was in the writer scene on Martha’s Vineyard. So now I am a mere 3 steps away from Eric Stoltz, and I think that is a good thing.
So if you are up for a 15 year old film about angsty college graduate 20 somethings involved in the arts and theatre, this is your film.
Naked in New York begins in the car of grown up Jake, he is talking to us about his girlfriend, Joanne, (watch for the facial expressions) and to whom you can turn to for help while facing life (‘your parents, nyaa, I don’t think so’). From there it flashes back to his memories of his parents, college, house across from a squirrel infested peanut factory, best friend, writing career and Joanne.
