Not as bad as anticipated. Sort of fun. Some nice nods to the original show. The Duane Johnson character was quite fun. Over all an ok watch.
Get Smart (2008)
Bride Wars (2009)
Though I found this film enjoyable for some Saturday night viewing, I did have a few problems.
1. Who believes that Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway are the same age? Though the two actresses supposedly only have 3 years difference in their actual age, I fail to actually believe it.
2. What kind of a mother allows her daughter to obsess so much about a wedding at least 20 years in the future to the point of where that child will risk a friendship over it?
3. Was this sponsored by “Weddings at the Plaza”?
I lived in NYC for 10 years and was lucky enough to never meet one of these obsessed brides. I hear they do exist, and I find that sad.
So the film was silly, over the top, delivered lessons, a happy ending and a set up for a sequel. What more could you want in fluffy chick flicks?
Havoc (2005)
It appears Anne Hathaway was looking to break from the Disney and period picture films in a big way with her performance in Havoc. She plays a rich girl in a suburban ‘gang’ that begins to mix it up with actual LA gangs. She gets arrested, attempts to try crack, hoars it up for a friends video camera, and drags her friends downtown with her.
Nice ending though. Not sure what happens. I guess there has to be some kind of message.
A pair of naive young girls learn that even the most insignificant actions can have lasting consequences. Influenced by the hip-hop thug lifestyle and seeking to explore life outside of their insulated, culturally homogenized suburb, pretty young teenagers Allison and Emily set their sights on East L.A. to experience the “gangsta” lifestyle firsthand. By the time the pair meet a ruthless Mexican drug dealer named Hector, some true-life Latino gang-bangers, and realize just how far out of their element they really are, it may already be too late to turn back.
Becoming Jane (2007)
Charming little film about how Jane Austen became a ‘spinster’ and great writer. The McAvoy was cute but played a guy who was sort of a dick.
A biographical portrait of a pre-fame Jane Austen and her romance with a young Irishman.
The Princess Diaries (2001)
A socially awkward but very bright 15-year-old girl being raised by a single mom discovers that she is the princess of a small European country because of the recent death of her long-absent father, who, unknown to her, was the crown prince of Genovia. She must make a choice between continuing the life of a San Francisco teen or stepping up to the throne. While Mia makes up her mind, she’s pressed into taking princess lessons from her grandmother.
The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
A naive young woman comes to New York and scores a job as the assistant to one of the city’s biggest magazine editors, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly.
