A black belt loses everything, keeps his morals and wins the big prize.
Great fight scenes both in and out of competition mixed martial arts run through this film. A black belt that has his own fighting technique and a dojo guides his students to put avoiding fights above all else and eventually gets pulled into a fight to save someone that takes advantage of him and ends up destroying a friend, his marriage and possibly his beliefs.

A fateful event leads to a job in the film business for top mixed-martial arts instructor Mike Terry. Though he refuses to participate in prize bouts, circumstances conspire to force him to consider entering such a competition.
This is a movie about technology, so they never ever date well as they are usually outdated tech wise by the time they show up on the screen. This one unfortunately used a script that appeared to have been written by someone that read WebCams for Dummies in 1998 and then wrote a script that didn’t get picked up until 2002 and no one bothered to update it in the least.
So here you have 4 “computer experts” having to explain a firewall and web cam to the chief of police. This film was not much more than a sad update to 8mm, taking snuff off film and putting it on the web (live).
Oh, and the acting was stiff, wooden, bad, uninteresting, unnatural, and just icky. Chiwetel Ejiofor, how hungry were you to have taken this film? You are such a good actor, this film took you down with it.

Thomas is a young computer specialist who spends most of his (spare?) time on the net. He logs regularly on Cathy’s site and apparently runs a very strong – but platonic! – relationship with her: they only see each other through web cams. One day, while Thomas is connected, Cathy is murdered under his eyes. But when he calls the police to try to “do something” he realizes that he doesn’t even now her “real” name or address…. Apparently the only witness, Thomas will soon find himself involved in the investigation held by Claire, a young police officer who’s also a web specialist. Together they will discover in the real world as well as in the virtual one, very weird things….
Too long. The characters were interesting enough, but it always amazes me in these films that are based on real events, how stupid people are. “I just watched my brother shoot someone in the head. I am SOOO going to work for him.” Really? The real events are based on the life of Frank Lucas, a drug dealer that attempted to make Harlem nothing but a neighborhood of junkies. I guess everyone needs a goal.

I love Don Cheadle. Always a good actor, even in less than stellar films. This was a great performance in a quite good film. Didn’t seem as long a film as it was. For me that is always a good sign.

Chillingly interesting. A good watch.
