I remember hearing all the critics rip on this film when it came out. It wasn’t enough like the cartoon, it wasn’t enough like the cartoon, etc.
Well, as a lover of color and appreciator of the my after school time being filled with Kimba and Speed Racer, I can say I enjoyed the film. The color was amazing. Super saturated. The story was actually a bit deeper than most speed racer afternoon cartoons. The only problem I had was the extreme close ups on some of the racing action. It was actually sort of hard to watch. A bit vertigo inducing.
I wish they had spent a bit more time in wideshots in the fight and race scenes. Seems like they spent a lot of time choreographing both and doing some great track cgi for the backgrounds and complex tracks. I would have like to have seen more of it.
So, great color, ok story, and John Goodman was looking much thinner than he has in a while. A nice watch, especially in HD. Not for everyone, it moves fast, but a fun enough watch.

The story begins with Speed Racer who is a young man with natural racing instincts whose goal is to win The Crucible, a cross-country car racing rally that took the life of his older brother, Rex Racer. Speed is loyal to the family business, run by his parents Pops and Mom. Pops designed Speed’s car, the Mach 5. The owner of Royalton Industries makes Speed a lucrative offer, Speed rejects the offer, angering the owner. Speed also uncovers a secret that top corporate interests, including Royalton, are fixing races and cheating to gain profit. With the offer to Speed denied, Royalton wants to ensure that Speed will not win races. Speed finds support from his parents and his girlfriend Trixie and enters The Crucible in a partnership with his one-time rival, Racer X, seeking to rescue his family’s business and the racing sport itself.
Sweet story of how 2 guys finally become a couple. The ups and downs, problems, stories, committment issues, alcohol, casual sex, action figures, families and friends.
Unless you are a homophobe (yep, guys kiss in this film on the mouth), this is a great story about a relationship and the people in it growing as a result.

Nice retelling of the Sleepy Hollow legend. Tim Burton makes everything dark and gothic, but all in all, an interesting film that kept my attention. And after having been in the sun most of the day, it is generally hard for me to stay awake (or not the color of a beet).
Before moving to a small town I would have thought the fact that everyone knew everyone and was related in some way be it blood or marriage was just something that was made up. Now that I pretty much live in the that situation and am not related to anyone in the town by either blood or marriage (except my husband, but I brought him with me), I was impressed on how nice the people from the town actually were to Depp’s character.
Pretty good film. Still holds up over time. Great teeth they got on Walken. Pretty high body count.

Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of 3 people with the culprit being the legendary apparition, the Headless Horseman.
Adorable fairy tale of a girl born with a pig nose because of a century old curse on her family and the man that loves her enough to give her up.
James McAvoy was again the nice yet flawed adorable guy. This may put us at having seen all of his films now. Catherine O’Hara was over the top as the mother. Sort of a blue blood version of her Beetlejuice character. Resse Witherspoon seemed wasted in the film.
A nice simple film with a good message. Worth a rainy Saturday afternoon watch, especially if you have daughters to watch it with.

A modern romantic tale about a young aristocratic heiress born under a curse that can only be broken when she finds true love with “one who will love her faithfully.”
Charming Irish film with a lot of Americans in it.

Good Blues. Story not half as disturbing as the trailer led us to believe.
