Not as bad as anticipated. Sort of fun. Some nice nods to the original show. The Duane Johnson character was quite fun. Over all an ok watch.
Get Smart (2008)
Careless (2007)
We started watching “Harold and Kumar Escape from Gutanamo Bay” and couldn’t make it past the prison guard oral sex scene and ended up here at Careless.
Careless is a film about a finger and the relationships it brings. It was a fairly uninteresting film that told you less about any character you might want to know about than you would hope. It leaves the finger question (how did it get there?) unanswered. Tony Shaloub is wasted in this film being the ‘weird dad’ with a tv obsession. Most everyone else is someone you would recognize if you watched a lot of television.
Not horrid, not great. Just a film.
Man, we have got to get another great film in here soon. I guess when you have watched over 150 films so far this year, some are going to be disappointing, but it seems like we have hit a run of just so-so films.
An offbeat comedy in the style of “Bottle Rocket” and “After Hours”. Wiley Roth finds a severed human finger in his kitchen one night. Understandably freaked out, Wiley and his best friend Mitch try to figure out the mystery of the finger, in a search across Los Angeles that brings them in contact with psychics, ineffectual police, crooked taxidermists, mysterious neighbors who might be on drugs, and a nine-fingered woman named Cheryl who might, improbably, end up being the girl of his dreams.
Semi-Pro (2008)
I was trying to find something positive to say about this film because sometimes I worry that my reviews are too cynical or mean, but the only thing I could come up with is André Benjamin is a cutey.
This film felt far more sophmoric than any Will Ferrell film we had watched before. Too many scenes like the poker scene where grown men just sit around a table saying “bad words” and shooting a gun.
Almost everyone in this film was better than this film. Woody Harrelson was possibly the only good performance.
Disappointing. I expect more from this group and hope I get it next time.
It was nice to see they did use actual footage from Flint, MI. Nice to see them getting a couple of dollars from the entertainment world since the auto industry has left them so high and dry.
Jackie Moon, the owner-coach-player of the American Basketball Association’s Flint Michigan Tropics, rallies his teammates to make their NBA dreams come true.
Barnyard (2006)
When the farmer’s away, all the animals play … and sing, and dance. Eventually, though, someone has to step in and run things, a responsibility that ends up going to Otis (James), a carefree cow.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
It takes a special someone to name their kids Walker and Texas Ranger. Best use of branding in a film.
#1 NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby (Ferrell) stays atop the heap thanks to a pact with his best friend and teammate, Cal Naughton, Jr. (Reilly). But when a French Formula One driver (Cohen), makes his way up the ladder, Ricky Bobby’s talent and devotion are put to the test.
Let’s Go To Prison (2006)
When a career criminal’s plan for revenge is thwarted by unlikely circumstances, he puts his intended victim’s son in his place by putting him in prison…and then joining him.
Thank You For Smoking (2005)
Satirical comedy follows the machinations of Big Tobacco’s chief spokesman, Nick Naylor, who spins on behalf of cigarettes while trying to remain a role model for his twelve-year-old son.
Waiting… (2005)
I am never eating at a chain restaurant ever again.
Young employees at Shenaniganz restaurant collectively stave off boredom and adulthood with their antics.
