A happy dog film. No dogs die in this film. No tears were shed, though I did choke up when they were all put in the pound.
This unrealistic romp about 5 teens and the dozens of dogs they save from the pound and certain death was sweet. The youngest kid was an engineer and problem solver of major proportions and would be swept up by any company that could hire an 11 year old. The dogs were happy, the kids were happy, and the dog catchers were evil incarnate as well as goofy foils for any visual prank.
Sweet, silly, unrealistic, with cute dog faces by the dozens. And quite the performances by Lisa Kudrow and Kevin Dillon.
Watch out for the french kissing though, so much tongue, and so wet and sloppy. Ewwww.

Animals are strictly forbidden at Andi and her little brother Bruce’s foster home. But for Friday, the adorable dog they secretly care for, they’re ready to risk everything. They finally find him an ideal shelter, a huge abandoned hotel that Bruce transforms thanks to his engineering genius. In what has become an incredible paradise for dogs, Friday is soon joined by all kinds of furry friends, so many in fact that their barks alert the neighbors…and the local pound, who can’t understand the disappearance of all the stray dogs. Andi and Bruce will have to call on all their friends and all their imagination to stop the hotel’s secret from being discovered.
Wow, quite a ride in this film. The CIA and the FBI not having any idea what is going on with each other, a secret CIA operative (so secret only one agent knows about him) infiltrating a terrorist organization, good guys and bad guys sometimes being the same guy. And Don Cheadle giving an amazing performance.
The film flew by with twist after twist, but still allowed you to keep up. And when his CIA contact gets shot, you feel the fear Cheadle’s character felt.
Deeply political, but worth the watch if you are looking for some fast paced high drama. There are sub titles in parts of the film and quite a bit of gun play and bombing, but they fit with the story.

When straight arrow FBI agent Roy Clayton heads up the investigation into a dangerous international conspiracy, all clues seem to lead back to former U.S. Special Operations officer, Samir Horn.
An okay film with great actors and an amazing soundtrack. Who knew the lives of NYC jazz studio musicians were so interesting and full of sex, drugs and parties? And the occasional brain tumor and remarkable friendship.

Superb drama about two best friends who play jazz in night clubs.
Ok, I am not a fan of Denzel Washingon. Ladies, don’t write. It is a personal preference thing. I just find him generally smarmy. But in this film, I really can’t imagine anyone else playing this part. Though I think I would have liked to see someone else playing the Daphne character other than Jennifer Beals. He caught many aspects of the character from desperation to exasperation. He seemed like a really good guy that was caught up in stuff he never expected.
A friend recommended this film because it was one of the first bigger roles for Don Cheadle, who I completely love. I wish they had used him more in this film. His character was fun, though a bit violent….ok a lot violent.
The film was in general quite good. It seemed short for all that was going on. The music was great. And I have quite a weakness for the film noir-esque films.

It is 1948 in LA and Ezikeal “Easy” Rawlins, an African-American World War II veteran, is looking for work. At his friend’s bar, he is introduced to a white man, DeWitt Albright, who is looking for someone to help him find a missing white woman assumed to be hiding somewhere in LA’s Black community. This woman, Daphane Monet, happens to be the fiancée of a wealthy “blue blood,” Todd Carter, who is currently the favorite in the city’s mayoralty race. Daphane Monet is known to frequent the Black jazz clubs in LA. Easy, innocently, accepts Albright’s offer; however, he quickly finds himself amidst murder, crooked cops, ruthless politicians, and brutalizing hoodlums. This is a Chandler-esque “who-done-it” with an African-American theme.
I love Don Cheadle. Always a good actor, even in less than stellar films. This was a great performance in a quite good film. Didn’t seem as long a film as it was. For me that is always a good sign.

The story of Washington D.C. radio personality Ralph “Petey” Greene, an ex-con who became a popular talk show host and community activist in the 1960s.
Thankfully it was so much better than Ocean’s 12. Not up to 11, but still fun.

Gripping story and brutal film about the Rwandan Tutsi genocide. Amazing performance by Don Cheadle.

The true-life story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who housed over a thousand Tutsi refugees during their struggle against the Hutu militia in Rwanda.
I like the whole different stories coming together into one, but it is starting to be overused. This was a very heavy film.

Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters, a police detective with a drugged out mother and a thieving younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the white district attorney and his irritated and pampered wife, a racist white veteran cop (caring for a sick father at home) who disgusts his more idealistic younger partner, a successful Hollywood director and his wife who must deal with the racist cop, a Persian-immigrant father who buys a gun to protect his shop, a Hispanic locksmith and his young daughter who is afraid of bullets, and more.
