Odd film about a man and his ability to make whatever he reads outloud happen and the effect it has on his family and the characters in books that come alive.
Interesting concept. Some great effects. Probably a really good kids film (10 and older). Of course, it might make them never read aloud again.

A young girl discovers her father has an amazing talent to bring characters out of their books and must try to stop a freed villain from destroying them all, with the help of her father, her aunt, and a storybook’s hero.
When I saw the summary for this film in the DVR I thought it sounded a bit odd. Helen Mirren and Cuba Gooding Jr. as a couple of assassins. I can honestly say I didn’t get that they were a couple. Yep, getting down and dirty with each other.
And they were not the only unexpected couple in this film. Joseph Gordon Levitt is an underground doctor (and it appears drug dealer) for the mob, assassins and anyone else that has an unexplainable gun shot wound. He is, of course, dating the crackhead/nurse Precious, played by Monique.
Those two relationships make this film sort of worth seeing. The premise is also interesting. Rose rescues Mikey from his abusive/assassin father who just recently killed Mikey’s mother. Rose is dating Mikey’s dad. After the death of Mikey’s father, Rose takes Mikey in and raises him, and they eventually become partners in business (assassination) and lovers. Cuba strikes is pretty lucky having to do sex scenes with the world’s sexiest AARP member.
There are plenty of twists in the film that make it worth watching. Rose makes decisions for herself and Mikey that affect both of their lives and the lives of others. And bring a 3rd generation of s into the mix.
One man’s family business…
Worth the watch. Odd enough to be enjoyable. Action enough to keep you interested. And you get to see Cuba dressed as a woman. Amazingly, not a very pretty woman.
Note: this film is a bit violent. Of course, it is about assassins.

When Rose, a female assassin, is diagnosed with terminal cancer; she decides to carry out one final killing, assisted by lover and also stepson, Mickey.
I was in the mood for a big Hollywood film and this fit the bill. We hadn’t seen the original film, but really don’t appear to have lost anything due to that.
Instead of lots of guns and explosions, this appears to have really had a water thing going in the big scene. Lots of water. Threat of drowning. The bad guy being selfless.
Unrealistic in almost every aspect and completely enjoyable.
