Goofy over the top silliness. What more can really be said? Every scene demonstrated unrealistic scenarios making even the blowing up of a crew member unexpectedly laugh out loud funny.
I think the only problem I had with the film was the Jack Black character. He was wasted in this film. His character was not really funny and didn’t fit with the rest of the cast at all. Too many drug and fart references. The rest of the characters were allowed to have multiple levels – acting and personally. They grew through the jungle experience. The Black character did nothing more than eventually decide to stop taking drugs or at least I think that was his decision, because I found I didn’t care that much when the other characters were actually doing things that were more interesting on some level.
The trailers at the beginning of the film were fun. An introduction into the characters these actors usually play and, well, I love trailers. I am one of those people that could sit through a half hour of trailers at a theatre (and would do it gladly in place of all those damn commercials, why am I paying 10 bucks to see a film and sitting through commercials. I don’t even sit through commercials at home usually). The trailers were a really nice way of giving background without going into the whole this guys is a serious actor, this guy is an action star, blah blah stuff that would have bogged down the film at the beginning.
Thank you Stiller for not disappointing. You gave me exactly what I expect from the Ben Stiller film, silliness without poop an overwhelming amount of poop jokes.

The old tale of how you dread spending time with your family over the holidays but really love them. Trite. Tried to take an amusing look at the true disfunction that lies at the base of family gatherings. Everyone was pretty much a stereotype of what we think of in a family: the overachiver that really isn’t, the golden boy that tortures others but really has a kind heart, the one that feels they have to carry the weight of everything and anticipate all that could go wrong, the wacky relative that drinks too much, the overbearing mother, the out of touch father, etc.
I think there was a reason we waited 13 years to watch this film. And will wait even longer to watch the slew of these that have come out since.

Jake Gyllenhall plays a writer obsessed with the Zodiac Killer in California. The movie was good. Great cast. Full of “I know that guy” actors. It was just way too long. This movie was over 2.5 hours from opening to closing credits. It could have been 2 max.

Robert Graysmith is a cartoonist who works for the San Francisco Chronicle. His quirky ways irritate Paul Avery, a reporter whose drinking gets in the way of doing his job. The two become friends thanks to a shared interest: the Zodiac killer. Graysmith steadily becomes obsessed with the case, as Avery’s life spirals into drunken oblivion. Graysmith’s amateur sleuthing puts him onto the path of David Toschi, a police inspector who has thus far failed to catch his man; Sherwood Morrill, a handwriting expert; Linda del Buono, a convict who knew one of the Zodiac’s victims; and others. Graysmith’s job, his wife and his children all become unimportant next to the one thing that really matters: catching the Zodiac.
