Great voice cast in this sweet film about “Monsters” that defeat the aliens and save the world. The 3D thing is a bit overdone and really irrelevant when watching it on a television. But none of the effects were bothersome.

Depressing and interesting look at a comedian as he goes through a terminal illness, realizes he is pretty much alone and proceeds to try and mess up the good thing that the only girl he feels he loved has.
Great performances by Sandler and Rogen.

When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act.
I was raised on the Dr. Suess books and used to love the illustrations. I appreciate that they kept that feel throughout Whoville, but sort of wish they had skipped their manic quest for realism in the jungle scenes. It is pretty enough, but it just didn’t feel Suess enough for me.
The story is one that almost every child is familiar with and there is nothing I can say about the story. It is appropriate for our time and a great story with wonderful characters. No disservice was done to the story.
So back to the animation style. I understand the reason for using a different style to a point for both worlds, but found the anime’ dream sequence of Horton’s to be way too off the path. It was almost as though it was shoved in there because anime’ is hot. I think it could have been skipped.
Beautiful film, fun voices, great story. Problems, but none that would keep me from recommending it and probably catching it again some day.

Horton the Elephant struggles to protect a microscopic community from his neighbors who refuse to believe it exists.
This was a cute film. I liked the opening credits where the style was more cell animation. It reminded me of Samurai Jack, one of the most beautiful cartoons I’ve seen in years. Unfortunately this had to go to the thoroughly predictable and uninteresting 3D animation style that has plagued films for years now. Seriously, if you aren’t going to do anything new or interesting with it, then just stop.
The story was basic. Underdog wins with a little training and a lot of will. Sort of The Karate Kid animated.
Not bad, not great. If I had kids it would probably be in the DVD collection because it does have a good message. Not that you can’t see and hear that message in thousands of other films, but not with Jack Black.

Ah, the fantasies of geeks that are now influential writers/actors/producers in Hollywood.
