Not as bad as anticipated. Sort of fun. Some nice nods to the original show. The Duane Johnson character was quite fun. Over all an ok watch.
Get Smart (2008)
Street Kings (2008)
There were a lot of people in this film that were very recognizable and of name in Hollywood film, and yet I never remember hearing about it.
This film paints a very dark picture of the LAPD. So few of the officers aren’t corrupt that you actually feel for the officer that kills all the bad guys without following the rules. I can say after watching this film, I wouldn’t want to be a resident of LA if even a quarter of this film was base on fact. But it wasn’t, it was based on a novel.
Pretty good, longer than it had to be, an ok watch just to see all the people playing complete dirt bags.
Tom Ludlow is a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he’s been a part of his entire career, ultimately leading him to question the loyalties of everyone around him.
How to Rob a Bank (2007)
A bank withdrawal goes really really wrong.
I remember those days where you only had 20 bucks in the bank and you couldn’t get it out through an ATM because the withdrawal fee would leave you with insufficient funds. Of course, I used to deposit change through the ATM. I am sure they loved that.
Going into the bank to get that 20 while it is being robber can cause problems, especially when you are locked in the vault with one of the thieves, who AMAZINGLY, is a hot girl.
The first of 3 films with Nick Stahl in it that we watched today.
Nothing impressive. An ok film. Contrived plot. Boring speech on bank fees.
Caught in the middle of a bank robbery, a slacker and a bank employee become the ones who arbitrate the intense situation.
Balls of Fury (2007)
Friday was a day where when it came to movies I only wanted something mindless. Either make me laugh or blow things up were my only criteria. And if you can do both, well then you as a film are a winner.
So there sat Balls of Fury in the DVR queue. It was the most mindless thing out of the 14 movies waiting and we went for it. Now this movie was crapped on by the critics when it came out. They made this movie sound so bad that the only reason we recorded it was because of The Walken.
Well, the critics were expecting some type of tour de force of film making or something like that, because this film was no where near as bad as they presented it being. It was a comedic look at American versions of Kung Fu films of the 60s and 70s from what I could tell. Could the parody have been done better? Possibly. Could it have been done more amusingly? Hard to say, because I laughed. And it had gun fights, kung fu fights, ass kicking pretty girls, poisonous darts and ping pong. And how can you not laugh at ping pong games where sudden death is taken that literally.
This film was goofy. Flawed, possibly. Enjoyable? You bet.
Just watch out for the Dragon.
Down-and-out former professional ping-pong phenom, Randy Daytona, is sucked into a maelstrom when FBI Agent Ernie Rodriguez recruits him for a secret mission. Randy is determined to bounce back and win, and to smoke out his father’s killer — arch-fiend Feng.
Harsh Times (2005)
This was not a pleasant film. It was good. The characters were well written and well acted. The film was just harsh. I wouldn’t watch it again and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are looking for a character study of the highly unstable.
A tough-minded drama about two friends in South Central Los Angeles and the violence that comes between them.
Idiocracy (2006)
Private Joe Bauers, the definition of “average American”, is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he’s easily the most intelligent person alive.
