I appreciate the wide eyed innocent characters that Will Ferrell has played. The cheerleader on SNL, Buddy the elf, even Chazz in Blades of Glory.
But when that wide eyed character is actually just a lazy ass dufus with no social skills, he really isn’t amusing. It is sad. There was so little likeable about either of these characters until the very end of this film that there is nothing worth sticking around until that point. I was surprised that I did.
It makes me sad to see 4 great actors wasted so badly in this film. The parents were pathetic and it was no surprise that they raised awful children. And ALL of the children were awful, even the successful one.
I wouldn’t recommend this film and after the last two previous Will Ferrell outings we watched, I am not sure how enthusiastic I would be to watch another. And the man is a workhorse, he has a lot of films in the queue.
Will, please stop disappointing me. Your humor seems to be regressing as you get older. Hint: boogers and poop aren’t funny for men over 40. Hell, they aren’t funny for boys over 14. Actually they aren’t funny at all at any age, but they are tolerable and understandable until around 14. Your films are becoming untolerable and I don’t understand it.

Two spoiled guys become competitive stepbrothers after their single parents get hitched.
I was trying to find something positive to say about this film because sometimes I worry that my reviews are too cynical or mean, but the only thing I could come up with is André Benjamin is a cutey.
This film felt far more sophmoric than any Will Ferrell film we had watched before. Too many scenes like the poker scene where grown men just sit around a table saying “bad words” and shooting a gun.
Almost everyone in this film was better than this film. Woody Harrelson was possibly the only good performance.
Disappointing. I expect more from this group and hope I get it next time.
It was nice to see they did use actual footage from Flint, MI. Nice to see them getting a couple of dollars from the entertainment world since the auto industry has left them so high and dry.

Jackie Moon, the owner-coach-player of the American Basketball Association’s Flint Michigan Tropics, rallies his teammates to make their NBA dreams come true.
Let me start by saying that I find Will Ferrell to be a comic genius. He works in adult comedy as well as comedy for children. He is edgy while rarely being blue or disturbing depsite his seeming obsession with exposing himself.
So this one man show was disappointing. At first I wasn’t sure if it was because having the last eight years presented in 90 minutes was making me depressed or if it just wasn’t funny. I will admint that there were funny moments.
Unfortunately, it felt like about 70% of the material was there to make sure that it filled up 90 minutes, which is what the Broadway audience was expecting in lenghth for what they paid. Thankfully, this came with my HBO cable package.
The sketches were like the most long and boring SNL openers. The “supporting cast” was either underused or overplayed. Presenting Condeleeza Rice as little more than a well dressed pole dancer was sort of insulting whether you like her or not.
Long, boring, unimaginative and sterotypical sketches with few laughs, little introspection, and far below any expectation I have for a Ferrell presentation.

Actress Reese Holden has been offered a small fortune by a book editor if she can secure for publication the love letters that her father, a reclusive novelist, wrote to her mother, who has since passed away.
Don’t watch this film with easily amused friends. Glad you were here though, Deb.

An IRS auditor suddenly finds himself the subject of narration only he can hear: narration that begins to affect his entire life, from his work, to his love-interest, to his death.
It takes a special someone to name their kids Walker and Texas Ranger. Best use of branding in a film.
