When I saw the previews for this film, I laughed so hard, I HAD to see this film. We needed to go near a town that actually had shopping and theatres so we decided to make a day/evening of it.
We got to the theatre early enough to get our preferred seats, when of course someone had to bring their damn kids (under 10 it appeared) that couldn’t sit still prior to the film starting so we moved up a bit closer. Still good seats, but why do people bring young children to an R rated film.
The film started out well. The Rules are pretty funny. I wish we had gotten more of them. Supposedly there are 32 rules, but we only get a few of them. After seeing the rules we got to see, I really wanted to see the others.
I liked the characters in this film. You had to like Columbus. Talahasse was bothersome, but in a good way. You knew you could count on him and that he was having fun and dealing with the situation the best way he could. The girls were a bit off putting at first, but you warmed up to them as they warmed up to the guys.
As a buddy flick, I guess this was ok. As a Zombie flick, this was disappointing. As a comedy, it lacked funny in the measure the previews had me anticipating. I just wanted more. More breaking of stuff, more odd interplay between Columbus and Talahasee, more great zombie kills, more zombie kills of the week, more twinkie, more weapons, just more.
I felt like I had been promised 11 and was delivered 7. And their could have been an 11 on that dial. Their should have been.
I regret that I cannot add this to the household favorites category. It was a good movie. It was fun enough, but didn’t deliver all it promised.
In a movie like this, you can never really be over the top. Its Zombies!
And the cameo, great, but again, undelivered.

In the horror comedy Zombieland focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss — but when you’re afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying’ bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.
I was trying to find something positive to say about this film because sometimes I worry that my reviews are too cynical or mean, but the only thing I could come up with is André Benjamin is a cutey.
This film felt far more sophmoric than any Will Ferrell film we had watched before. Too many scenes like the poker scene where grown men just sit around a table saying “bad words” and shooting a gun.
Almost everyone in this film was better than this film. Woody Harrelson was possibly the only good performance.
Disappointing. I expect more from this group and hope I get it next time.
It was nice to see they did use actual footage from Flint, MI. Nice to see them getting a couple of dollars from the entertainment world since the auto industry has left them so high and dry.

Another in a series of the little guy winning out over the corporation by just doing what he is doing and being who he is being, dude. With a twist — a bigger corporation swallows up the one that is doing him wrong, man. And the giant corporation is sympathetic to the fact that he just wants to surf. Well, that and he is sleeping with the CEOs daughter who is sure she has found love.
Ok, it was a film where people were basically surfing, smoking weed or having sex – pretty much the same circumstances I imagine the film was written under – so I didn’t expect it to be rooted in much reality. Well, that and the whole McConaughey thing.
This wasn’t surfer enough, dude enough, stoned enough or fun enough to merit anything more than an “eh”.

A wave twisting tale of a soul searching surfer experiencing an existential crisis.
A moving film about a single mother, her daughter and the mother’s brother. A messed up family that ends up coming through for each other in all the wrong ways.
Charlize Theron is a woman that finds herself homeless when her boyfriend she and her daughter live with is found to be growing 2 acres of marijuna plants. She moves her and her daughter in to her brother’s apartment and then leaves.
The daughter and her uncle bond and take a trip to visit his father’s farm. You understand why the family is like they are after spending time with the father.
The relationship that grows between the niece and uncle is heartwarming. The story is depressing.

The drama follows an 11-year-old girl’s struggle to come to terms with her mother’s abandonment.
A silly film where every teller in the bank robs it. One gets the ATM to get back at the back manager she just got dumped by, one takes a quarter mil. to Vegas and one steals all the cash out of the safe deposit box of the man that killed his duck’s mother.
Not a great film, but a fun premise. They just really didn’t do anything with it. Good cast too. Alicia Silverstone, Woody Harrelson, and Rachel Leigh Cook. It felt like they kept asking the John Cleese character to pull back because he could have really gone further with his part.
So, not a film I would recommend, but if you see it, you won’t hate it.

Woody Harrelson meets the cast of the Larry David Show and Arrested Development to make fun of televised Professional Poker tournaments. If you have ever watched them on television and thought, this is sort of silly, then you will enjoy this film.
I liked the ending. Not expected. Richard Kind was hilarious as the amateur that never played a game of poker off the computer. No idea what anything meant, tells, bluffs, all new to him. How he made it to the final 6 is probably the most absurd thing in the film.

Let me start by saying that I LIKE the Coen Bros. They have brought us many films that I enjoyed immensely. I even enjoyed this film, but 4 Oscars? Best Motion Picture of the Year? Best Achievement in Directing? Was anything else nominated? There was nothing outstanding about this film. The characters weren’t all that interesting. The ending was non at best. This was just a nice film to watch.
